National Basketball League club JKL Dolphins have released seven players, it’s official.
Big man Ivan Lumanyika, who also features for the Silverbacks, headlines the list.
Lumanyika, formerly at KIU Titans, played for City Oilers last year in December in the Basketball Africa League qualifiers in Kigali, Rwanda.
He spent last season with an injury that kept him out of almost the entire regular season, playing just six league games for the club.
Kenyan centre Brian Muramba who joined the club from Oilers has also been released despite having a stellar season with the club.
Muramba started all the 18 games he played for JKL, and he was the team’s this leading point scorer behind Brian Namake and Daniel ‘Dudus’ Muramba.
Point guard Yesman Bushiri who has a striking resemblance to Namake, Bernard Okumu who joined from UPDF Tomahawks, hard working Ferdinand Odama, Daniel Orenga, Jonathan Obukunyang and Emmanuel Ateng have all been released, according to the club.
Namake, Dudus, Jude Ochen and Joseph Wacha remain as the notable figures at the club that is expected to go big on the transfer market.
When contacted, team technical Director Fredrick’s ‘Freedom’ Owora said briefly: “Watch the space, we are building a team.”
Notably, their sister club, JKL Lady Dolphins also showed an exit door to long term serving players Peace Nakirijja and Angela Namirimu.
The Dolphins finished the regular season in fourth with a 15-7 record before falling to Betway Power in the quarter finals.
