Women U17 World Cup: Uganda Seek Positive Result In Ethiopia

The Uganda Women U-17 football team is targeting a positive result when they face hosts Ethiopia in the second leg of first preliminary round of U17 women world Cup qualifier at Bahir Dar National Stadium, Addis Ababa.

Uganda has an advantage of 2-0 lead following Juliet Nalukenge and Catherine Nagadya goals in the first leg played in Lugogo, two weeks back.

“Our first ambition is to get a win, we came with a 2-0 lead from home and we have to maintain and win the second leg also,” Coach Ayub after team’s lasting training at Bahir Da National Stadium.

However, coach Khalifah is also expecting a tough challenge from Ethiopian but he is convinced that the good homework done by his side will help them to negotiate the tie.

“Despite a 2-0 win in Kampala, Ethiopian team was not an easy side, they just lost concentration in the first half but they outplayed in second half, Generally they have good players who can put up resistance. But we have looked at out mistakes and i think we solved that puzzle.”

This is the first time for junior Crested Cranes to play in Ethiopia but they have to worry about the unpleasant record Ugandan Crested Cranes has in Ethiopia.

Uganda Crested Cranes is winless for the two times they played Ethiopia in Addis Ababa, following a 3-2 loss in first round of Olympic qualifiers in April last year and 2-0 defeat way back in 2002 in Africa Women Nations Cup Qualifiers.

If Uganda negotiate past this tie, will again play neighbors Tanzania in the second round who put 6-1 past Burundi on aggregate from two legs in their first round.
