The Elite Secondary school championship was started in January last year featuring the best 12 schools in Copa Coca Cola Championship of the previous edition – and was won by St Mary’s Kitende.
On Monday, 27 January 2020, was the opening of the second edition and last years winner Kitende shined brightest on day one at Old Kampala.
Kitende won both their games to go top of group A above hosts Old Kampala SS, St Henry Kitovu, Jinja SS, St John Mukono and Dynamic SS.
Kitende beat Jinja SS 3-0 in the opener as Captain Najib Yiga, Emanuel Jowanga and Chopra Tumwine on target.
Later in the day, Kitende returned to the field of play for their second game as they beat Dynamic SS 4-2. The first half ended 1-1 but second half became more dramatic with Kitende netting twice inside the first ten minutes of the second half before a spectacular finish from Dynamics’ Ssengabo Moses to regain hope of picking a point from the defending champion with standing.
However, all hope couldn’t last for long when Kitende extended their lead to 4-2 immediately which became the final score.
Yiga, Ashaba Ivan, Star Player Kawooya Andrew and new recruit Jowanga scored for Kitende as Ssetomero Swabuli and Ssengabo Moses scored for Dynamic SS.
