 Elite Schools Championship: St Mary’s Kitende Defends Title

St Mary’s Kitende crowned champions

*Boys Finals: St Mary’s Kitende 3-0 Royal Giants Mityana

St Mary’s Kitende beat Royal Giants Mityana 3-0 to win boys football title at the 2020 Elites Schools championship held at Old Kampala.

Ashaba Ivan scored in the first half and assisted captain Najib Yiga for second goal of the day.

The captain later took his tally to four goals when he scored to give Kitende a 3-0 lead.

Najib finished as tournament topscorer with four goals, just a goal ahead of his team mate Jowanga Emanuel on 3 goals.

Kitende won the inaugural edition last year after hammering Buddo SS by 4 goals.

To reach the final, Kitende knocked out Standard High Zana in semifinal on penalty shootout 5-4 after a goalless draw in normal time.

Royal Giants reached the final after defeating St Henry Kitovu 3-0 in 90 minutes with Oloyo Habib, Kakande Shafick and Bugembe Isa scoring in the first half.

St Henry Kitovu and Standard High Zana played in an entertaining third place playoff match – Kitovu won 1-0 thanks to youngstar Kayijuka Derrick.

St Noa emerged the overall winner winning 3 trophies in Girls Football, Netball Girls and Basketball. Bethel Covenant won boys basketball.

The president USSSA Patrick Okanya thanked the private schools directors for heavily funding their schools in the lines of sports.

“I thank the directors of the private schools, Its one thing to make money and it is another thing to to inject money in sports, we had 25 schools turned up for the championship but 16 out of them has been private schools,” said Okanya.

The Inspector for physical education Hajjara Dembe who represented Commissioner O’Mara Apita assured everyone that Government will continue to fund sports in schools.
