Boxing: Buchaman Assures Bombers

Mark Bugembe aka Buchaman has assured Uganda’s National Boxing team, the Bombers, of a direct link to President Yoweri Museveni.

Buchaman was appointed the special envoy to the ghetto last year by the President ‘to galvanise his support in Kampala slums’.

He, on Tuesday afternoon, met with the Bombers team that is having a residential camp at Luzira.

“Asatu mu bbanga,” started Bucha.

“Abiri ku nyama… ratatata..” the bombers rhymed along to show mutual connection and understanding.

“Boxing comes direct from the Ghetto,” added Bucha. ”But it has been a forgotten Sport. We, together with the Boxing federation, we want to resurrect the sport, the old fighters have long been forgotten yet they raised the National flag.”

“I need to know all the challenges you go through here. I respect your struggles and so do everyone. I know how that ring grows small in size when you step into, you should be treated with all the respect you deserve.

“I will represent your struggles to President Museveni, I will do everything in my means to take you to the State House and your issues will be addressed accordingly. That I assure you.”

Besides the media and Bombers, the event was attended to by UBF President Moses Muhangi, Head of Sports Luzira Prisons Robert Iwanve, Mama Ghetto (Bucha’s wife), NCS technical department Ivan Nuwamanya among others.

The Bombers are having preparations for the African qualifiers for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Uganda will be represented by 13 bombers in the African championship in Dakar, Senegal in February 17th, with the gold and silver medalists earning a spot to the Olympics.

Uganda will take a team of 13 boxers to Dakar has already taken shape, on February 17, 2020.

Muhangi recently commented that the National team has faced financial constraints that have affected preparations despite support from NCS (government).
