FUFA Licensing committee has cleared Kakyeka stadium to host Mbarara City FC’s StarTimes UPL games, its official.
The Ankole Lions have been hosting their league games at Bombo since the start of the second round.
The stadium had been barred due its poor state especially with the playing surface towards the end of the first round.
However, FUFA has advised that only one club should use Kakyeka to host games ”so as not to have the ground deteriote.” This will be bad news to other clubs like Nyamityobora FC.
Also, Mbarara has been advised that training may be limited on the field of play to maintain the status of the ground.
Uganda Premier League CEO Bernard Bampaire Bainamani has confirmed that subsequent Mbarara home games will be played at Kakyeka:
“The Secretariat has received a letter from FUFA indicating that Kakyeka Stadium has since met the minimum requirements to host Uganda Premier League games.
“Accordingly, all Mbarara City FC home matches will now be hosted at Kakyeka Stadium-Mbarara.”
The club also hosted many first round games at Luzira Prison because of licensing issues.
Coached by Brian Ssenyondo, Mbarara City FC are eighth on the table with 26 points after 20 games.
The development will see Mbarara hosts Police FC on Friday at Kakyeka Stadium.
