Cricket Cranes’ tour to Qatar got off to a low start after a two-wicket loss to President X1 side despite an impressive display by debutant Saud Islam.

Opening batsman Saud hit 100 runs off 116 balls, Arnold Otwani had 50, former Captain Roger Mukasa managed 49 to help Uganda, who were forced in to bat first, reach 256 runs.

In the second innings, Right Arm fast bowler Richard Agamire (1-74) picked Uganda’s first wicket – bowling Zaharuddeen at 50/1 to give the Cricket Cranes hope.

Opening left arm medium bowler Charles Waiswa got two wickets, Deus Muhumuza and Henry Ssenyondo also picked a wicket each but the efforts were not enough to limit Qatar.

Imal Liyanage scored 84 runs before Mohamed Rizzan’s unbeaten 48 saw President XI’s side overturn the total with an over to spare.
