Donald Rukare has been appointed as the new chairman for National Council of Sports (NCS), it’s official.
Rukare, who is currently the President of Uganda Swimming Federation, replaces Bosco Onyik who has held the position since 2012.
Onyik had replaced Anthony Katamba.
The new state Minister for Sports, Hamson David Obua confirmed the new appointment and announced the new members on board.
Only three members – Cecilia Anyakoit, Agatha Namirembe and Zubair Galiwango – have been retained from the previous regime.

Before reading out the names, Minister Obua said:
“In the exercise of the powers vested upon me by section 4(2) of the National Council of Sports Act (Chapter 48), I am pleased to appoint the following as chairperson a d members of NCS for two years with immediate effect..”
Rukare, who holds a Masters in Sports Management from Louvan Belgium, is also the general Secretary of Uganda Olympics Committee.
The outgoing regime has tried to combat wrangles in federations and lobbied for more funding but the inadequacy and unavailability of Sports facilities is one of its main failures.
The NCS, is a statutory organ whose establishment, status and powers are enshrined under The NCS Act of 1964, to among other things; Develop, Promote and Control sports activities in Uganda on behalf of Government, under the Ministry of Education and Sports.
