Top flight side Bright Stars have been handed a Stanbic Uganda Cup exit by regional league side Free Stars FC.

After a goalless draw at Kavumba Recreation centre, it was Free Stars that twinkled brightest in shootouts to give last year’s finalists marching orders.

Ronald Sempala and Ronald Nkonge missed their penalties as Paul Kiwanuka’s side bundled out at the round of 32.

Alfred Onek, Bernard Muwanga and Steven Munguki had converted their spots but it proved not enough.

Alfred Kitonsa missed for Free Stars but Gerrard Mayombo, Allan Opio, Derrick Mbowa and Emmanuel Anguzu completed the assignment.

The exit will be seen as a blessing in disguise for Bright Stars who now have 100% concentration on league survival.
