Mbarara City recorded their biggest win after a 9-0 mauling of Faith, Hope and Love (FHL) in Uganda cup at Kakyeka.

Raymond Onyai scored a hat-trick, including a penalty in added time, and Brian Aheebwa bagged a double in the club’s historical victory.

Solomon Okwalinga, Ronald Otto, Makueth Wol and Ibrahim Magandaazi were on target with a goal each for Mbarara who led 5-0 at halftime.

The victory sees the Ankole Lions reach round of 16 for the first time in the club’s history.

The club had been eliminated at round of 32 in the previous two seasons – They were ousted by Kansai Plascon (2018) and BUL FC (2019).

The win also extends Brian Ssenyondo’s record at Kakyeka – He has now won five straight games on the ground after previous victories off Police FC, Onduparaka FC, Kyetume and KCCA FC.

Mbarara beat Kakiri FC 2-1 at the round of 64 while regional league side FHL FC, shocked Big league team Ndejje University with a 4-1 win in shootouts in Moyo.

Mbarara City joins Free Stars, Dove FC, Wakiso Giants, Proline FC, Tooro United, URA FC, Maroons and UPDF to the round of 16.
