Uganda In Qatar: Cricket Cranes Choke Hosts For Maiden Win

Uganda Cricket Cranes pummeled Qatar by 138 runs to record their first win at the ongoing tour.

The tourists had lost three straight games, including two T20 games lost by 40 and 28 runs in that order.

But the side, under the tutelage of interim coach Davis Turinawe and assisted by Jackson Ogwang, scored a lofty 287 after winning the toss.

Saud Islam, who had missed the international T20 series, set the tone with 57 runs off 49 balls while Captain Brian Masaba (54) and Deus Muhumuza (53) also reached half centuries.

Uganda lost it’s first wicket when right hand opening batsman Roger Mukasa was caught by Syem Tameem to walk off with just 15 runs. Uganda later recovered from 65/1 to 223/5 before Frank Akankwasa, Fred Achelam and Frank Nsubuga added a couple of runs despite Rathod Himanshu 2-49 efforts on the day.

With the ball, a hat-trick of wickets each from Henry Ssenyondo (3-23) and Deus Muhumuza (3-31) – saw Uganda limit the hosts to 144 all out with 12 overs to spare.

Openers Zaharuddeen Ibrahim was run out by Frank Nsubuga (1-28) while Patel Dharmang was dismissed leg before wicket by Muhumuza.

Kurram Shahzad and Rizlan Mohammed had marched off with a duck and one run respectively in between the dismissal of the openers to hand Qatar a frustrating start.

From 65/4, Uganda who had stamped their authority were in cruise control and never looked back, before sealing an emphatic win from the enemy territory.

Uganda will play the third T20 game against Qatar before setting off for another tour to India.
