Uganda Wildlife Authority Marathon Launched

The fifth edition of the Uganda Wildlife Marathon has been launched on Thursday.

This year’s edition, they target to collect funds for educating orphans which where left behind by fallen Rangers.

Over 50 families are targeted to benefit in this years Marathon as Bashir Hangi, the Uganda wildlife Authority communications manager, stated at the launch held at their headquarters along Kira Road.

Sh20M was collected last year and about Sh30M is the target.

The Executive Director of the Authority Samuel Mwandha has urged the public to come and support the cause.

“Rangers have done a tremendous job for this country and they are still doing great for the public,” said Mwandha.

“I therefore I call upon every kind of Support to this course. It is the only kind of appreciation they can get from public.

“A number of Rangers and Wardens have lost their lives at service working for Uganda Wildlife Authority. They have left families behind in a helpless situation so any participant will be supporting those families.”

The Marathon will take place on Sunday 23 March and that will be exactly 20 days off the World wildlife day which will be held on 3rd March in Kisoro.

Over 6000 including elite runners lke Musagala Ronald, Sarah Chelangat Ali Ssegusi and Abu Mayanja are confirmed for having registered.

Registration is still on at Uganda Wildlife Authority Headquarter, Uganda Museum, Uganda Wildlife Convention Center (Entebbe Zoo) and at Association of Uganda tour operator.

The marathon will be flagged off at Uganda Museum and Deputy Speaker of Parliament is expect to be the Chief Runner.
