Reports: Nkumba Lady Marines To Miss 2020 NBL Season

Nkumba University has reportedly disbanded their women National basketball team, the Nkumba Lady Marines.

A source at the campus has told this website that the University officials have cited inadequate finances.

All this comes after the departure of the team’s best franchise player Brenda Ekone who joined JKL Lady Marines after completing her Masters.

Susan Becca Aanyu is the other player who graduated from the 2019 roster.

This leaves nine teams that are set to take part in the forthcoming Women NBL season.

“It is not yet official that Nkumba are not taking part in this season’s NBL,” an official at FUBA stated when contacted.

“We have written to them and we are still waiting for their official communication.”

The Men’s team, Nkumba Marines, that competes in the Division one, will remain competing, it has been reported.

A team that finished third in the division one last season, will be added to make it 10 teams before the new season next month.

Javon Ladies is set to snatch the slot, as they beat Miracle Eaglets to come third – While Nabisunsa Girls and Magic Stormers were promoted.

MUK Sparks and YMCA Lady Hamsters were relegated from top flight last season.
