Jack Komakech believes that he is the next Denis Onyango and dreams of playing abroad in five years time.

But who is he?

Komakech was born to Billy Okot and Florence Aciro on July 31, 2002 in Gulu Referral hospital, Gulu district.

He has been playing with Football For Good Youth Academy since 2015. The Acholi is a student at Buziga Islamic and has turned out for Ndejje University junior team.

He caught everyone’s attention in 2016 while playing for Football For Good academy in Oriya Cup in Gulu where he made tremendous saves.

“I made a lot of saves including one-on-ones and everyone was impressed,” Komakech reflects with a beaming smile.

“We finished third in the tourney despite facing U23 teams. It was a great performance and we dominated sides.”

The teenager featured for the Uganda U17 team, the Cubs, at CAF U17 championship in Dar Es Salaam.

He played for the Uganda U20 national team during the CECAFA U20 tournament last year.

He was recently summoned to train with Uganda Cranes last year as the side prepared for CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup.

Jonathan Mckinstry, speaking about Komakech, commented that the future is ‘very bright’ for the youngster and he hopes to have him in the side regularly.

When asked who is his greatest inspiration, Koma reveals:

“I am inspired by Denis Onyango locally and I like Manuel Neuer (Germany) internationally.”

“Onyango makes many a lot of saves and his good ball distribution to teammates is one of the many things I admire about him. I believe that I will be him one day, If you can dream it, you can achieve it. I believe in myself.”

Komakech says that he is stronger than what people think and needs maximum support to achieve his dream.

Despite all his admirable strengths and attributes, he admits that his weaknesses normally arise from crosses.

His biggest regret is a 1-1 draw against Nigeria with the Uganda in AFCON U17 in Tanzania where they needed a win to qualify for the World Cup.

“I can see myself playing abroad in the next five years time,” Koma reveals his ambition. “I feel great for myself because I keep improving each passing day.”
