Betway Power Accords Perfect Farewell To Outgoing Players

National Basketball League side Betway Power unveiled its new guns and bid farewell to outgoing players ahead of the season that tips off on March 20.

The glamorous event was held at Kati Kati on Wednesday night.

Five time champions Power, who made overhaul changes in the transfer market, are seeking to put an end to their eight-year league championship draught.

The event was graced by the outgoing players, new signings, Power officials, FUBA president Nasser Sserunjogi, Betway Country Manager Adellah Agaba among others.

Agaba commended the efforts exhibited by the outgoing players before pledging support to the new members of the team.

“This an emotional night for me because most of the players leaving have been my personal friends,” said Agaba in a soft tone.

“When I was told that the club will be letting some of the players go, I had to come up of this idea so that we can give the outgoing players a perfect send off. This event is a testimony that Betway is here to support the game. Our intention here is to show these outgoing players that we still care about them wherever they go.

“Ikong and your friends, thank you for your time, thank you for the games, the disappointments, we do love the commitment you had for the game, thank you. Betway is very grateful.”

The exiting players who were released by the club include captain Fahmy Ssebatindira, Joseph Ikong, Syrus Kiviiri, Paul Odong among others. These were honoured and received their certificates.

All across the social media, the move to let a core of the team leave has been greeted with negative criticism with many fans taking to social media to show their discontent.

Ivan Lumanyika headlines the new signings but didn’t grace the event as reports indicate that he is not yet back in the country.

Osama Arion who is completing his studies next month at UCU is among the additions. It was also confirmed that Brian Sivachi is still a Power player despite a move by KIU Titans to unveil him.

Geoffrey Soro was not listed among the outgoing players but he has signed and already playing with a club in Rwanda. It remains to be seen whether it was a mistake or there was a fault in the deal.

“Power is not going in shambles,” Agaba assured. “Everything has a staring point. Its time to think about the game.”

“My encouragement to the new players is that they should be mindful of the image they carry and should do all tgey can to protecting the corporate image of the sponsor and their own brands.

“There are better times ahead, as betway we are committed and look forward to seeing the new players gel, play as a team, we are going to be there, whatever is needed will be provided. I look forward to getting the best results this year.”

Surprisingly, none of the members of Power technical team, led by coach Arnold Mchuda Lando, attended the event.
