Gift Ali not part of CHAN squad to represent Uganda
KCCA FC central midfielder Gift Ali says that he was disappointed but will continue working hard after missing out on the Uganda Cranes squad for CHAN.
Social media and analysts showed their discontent after Gift Ali was left out of Jonathan Mckinstry’s 34-man squad.
Gigi, as commonly known, has been KCCA FC’s best player this ongoing season and the best in the position in the league.
“As a player, the dream is to represent my country and to attain that I really need to work hard but again its not up to me to call the team but again all the players called deserve to be there, and some are my teamates and my friends so i wish them well,” he said on Monday.
“And am going to work hard to see that one day i get a call but the focus is now on winning the tittle.
“I was disappointed for not being summoned as it’s any other player’s dream to represent the country, but i respect the technical team because they know who is the best at what, but i believe i will be called one day because the door is still open.”
Shafic Kagimu who played the role in CECAFA last year, Karim Watambala, Julius Poloto among others were selected ahead of by Mckinstry ahead of Gigi.
Gigi will miss KCCA FC’s league encounter on Tuesday against his former club Proline FC after accumulating three yellow cards.
“Its hard for me as player to miss out on the tomorrow game but it happens, the coach mentioned the players available and I think we are just rich in that area of midfield where we have couples of players who can equally play well if not better so I believe there won’t be any problems tomorrow.
“We are going for the win to close onto the gap so its going to be an important game.”
