Tennis: Uganda Set To Host East Africa Junior Tourney

Uganda Tennis Association will host the fourth edition of the East Africa (Zone IV) Junior teams’ competition for boys and for girls of 12 years and under.

The annual event will will take place at Lugogo, Kampala on March 3-7, 2020.

This, will serve as a qualifying event for the final event of the African Junior team’s competition 12 & Under (AJTC – 12&U) that will take place early September 2020.

“Ugandans should come and support the upcoming generation, these are the future stars,” UTA president Cedric Babu. “The future of our game lies in technique.”

Tanzania, Seychelles, Sudan, Burundi, Kenya and Ethiopia have confirmed participation.

National Council of Sports Head of Corporate Affairs Ismail Dhakaba Kigongo commented that government has already contributed Sh12M to facilitate the event.

Uganda are the defending champions in the Girls category after the team of Maggie Flavia Namaganda, Eseza Muwanguzi and Paula Awino qualified in Nairobi in 2019 to represent East Africa at the Moundir Tennis Association Academy in September 2019.

The boys team finished second to Kenya and comprised of Troy Zziwa, Allan Otto and Junior Nyata and also represented East Africa at the final AJC event.

Team Uganda:

Boys – Junior Nyaata Julius, Nasser Ochom, Francis Agonzebwa

Girls – Charity Akot, Eseza Muwanguzi, Edna Nabiryo Lovina.
