USPA: 5KM World Record Holder Cheptegei Named Best Of February

Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has voted Joshua Cheptegei as the best sports personality of the month of February 2020.

During the association’s monthly meeting held at Imperial Royal Kampala on 2nd March, Cheptegei beat Athlete Juliet Chekwel, Boxer Shadir Musa Bwogi and young swimmer Namutebi Kirabo.

Last month, Cheptegei won the 5KM race in Monaco France by recording 12 minutes and 51 seconds to better his own record of 12:57 which over took Rhonex Kiruto’s 13:18 in 2019.

Cheptegei collected 465 points to win over Chekwel who set a new national record 2:23:13 on her to win the Zurich Marathon and qualify for 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics games.

Chekwel collected 300 points to finish ahead of
Kirabo who collected 270 points.

Kirabo won a total of five medals at the CANA zone 3 swimming championship in Botswan, Kirabo won two gold medals 2 silver medals and a bronze.

Bombers captain Shadir Musa Bwogi who had 265 points as a result for qualifying through box off at Africa Olympics boxing qualifiers in Dakar Senegal.

At the meeting, USPA President Patrick Kanyomozi alerted on infant plans of sensitizing the members of the association on their rights after realising that most of the members services at their working place are not valued.
