Uganda To Take Boxers To Global Olympics Qualifiers in France

The General Secretary of National council of sports Dr. Patrick Barnard Ogwel has confirmed that Uganda shall take boxers to the global Olympics qualifiers in France.

Four members of Bombers team who reached the semis in the concluded African Boxing Championship in Dakar – Senegal, have high chances of going to France.

They are Emilly Nakalema, Catherine Nanziri, Isaac Masembe and David Ssemujju.

The team captain Shadir Musa Bwogi managed to secure a direct ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympics after winning his box-off fight in Dakar.

“We are ready to sponsor athletes to France but we not about quantity,” said Ogwel. “We are about quality, we shall take the best boxers to France.”

Featherweight Isaac Masembe is optimistic ahead of France trip, if he gets a place on the plane.

“I am sure that I will qualify and all our boxers will be able to qualify, if they managed to reach Semifinals in France they need five.”

On the possibility of meeting tougher boxers in France, Masembe added:

“We are all boxers and we will fight them good enough we have gathered some exposure from Dakar. I have leant on best scoring punches before I was just a fighter now I am more of a Boxers so it is high chances to qualify.”

The global Olympics qualifiers will take place in May and each weight shall have a chance to qualify for top five.
