Maroons Vs Express: Old Boys Seek To Detain Former Masters

*Maroons Vs Express – 4pm

Express FC will be facing former coach Douglas Bamweyana and a couple of former players when they visit Maroons in a league game at Luzira Prisons.

Bamweyana was the Express FC coach before the two parties parted ways in November 2017.

He remains the last coach to guide Express FC past Maroons, its a fact.

Dan Sserunkuma and David Ndihabwe were on target as Express beat Maroons 2-0 at Wankulukuku on September 27, 2019.

Since then, the last five meetings between Express have ended in draws.

Maroons players Ndihabwe, Edgar Bwogi and Davies Mayanja will be pointing guns at their former pay masters.

Maroons are on a four-game losing streak, including a recent 5-0 loss against Vipers at Kitende. They lost to KCCA, Wakiso and Busoga. They had earlier drawn with Tooro United at Luzira.

To make it worse, they have not beaten Express FC in the league since 2011, a spell of nine years.

However, they ejected the side in this year’s Uganda Cup through shootouts after a 3-3 draw in Kavumba when Dissan Galiwango and Baker Lukooya failed to score from the spot.

Speaking of Dissan, the captain may miss the trip to Luzira because of injuries and goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga may wear the armband.

In addition, Joshua Adea, Joshua Ssentambule, Hamdan Nsubuga and Edirisa Kaye have reportedly been shown the exit door by Wasswa Bbosa, awaiting official communication from the club.

Express FC are 12th on the log with 28 points, two places and six points above the relegation zone while Maroons occupy 13th place with 24 points.

“The team has been training so well and we hope tomorrow we shall shake off the relegation pressure by getting three points. We want to win that game and take three points,” said Bbosa who has seen his side pick maximum points away against Onduparaka and a draw at Lugogo against KCCA.

The last league meeting between the two teams ended 2-2 with Fred Amaku and Steven Mukwala leading the fight back after Kalanda and Frank Ssenyondo had given Express a 2-0 lead in a lunchtime kickoff at Njeru.

Last season at Luzira, Abdallah Ssenyonga denied Express, who had gone ahead through Michael Birungi, maximum points to end 1-1.

Express’ last win at Luzira against Maroons in recent memory was I. 2016, when Vicent Kayizzi and Ibrahim Kayiwa were on target while Patrick Kaddu’s penalty proved a consolation for the hosts. Express won 2-1 then.

Maroons will hope to have striker Mukwala back from the national team training. He also missed game against parent club Vipers at Kitende. Bronson Nsubuga is also expected to start after missing the Vipers’ game with reasons yet to be identified.

The Uganda cup meeting at Kavumba saw Express fans cause damage to the Maroons bus and any form of hooliganism in Luzira may see some detained.
