Uganda Cranes coach is confident that the three new UK-based players will add a lot to the team ahead of the 2021 Africa Cupnof Nations Qualifiers.

The Northern Irishman included Elvis Okello Bwomono (Southend), Jayden Onen (Brentford B) and Karl Anthony Uchechukwu Mubiru Ikpeazu (Hearts) to the 20-man squad that will prepare for South Sudan double header.

“I believe that they can play a big part in what we are trying to build and achieve,” said Mckinstry.

“Three players who are coming in to compete. We cannot guarantee anyone that they are going to be on the starting XI. They have to come and show that they deserve to put on the Uganda Cranes jersey.”

Mckinstry said that five Uganda Premier League players will be added to the 20 foreign based players to make a total of 25.

Patrick Kaddu, Murushid Juuko and Isaac Muleme have been dropped while Farouk Miya and Kizito Luwagga are reportedly injured.

The new additions will have to prove their worth of they are to become mainstays on the Uganda Cranes team.

“At 21, he has close to 100 Proffessional appearances, playing in the English League one is very impressive, there are not many Under 21 players with about 100 games,” Mckinstry said about Bwomono.

“He is being tracked by a number of big clubs in England, he will be getting a better opportunity to play higher than where he is. He is very enthusiastic to play for his home country. That competition at right back will be very interesting.”

About Jayden, Mckinstry told the press that the 18-year old is a graduate of Arsenal FC academy which he joined at the age of six until 17 before he moved to Brentford.

“He has a lot of potential, an attacking midfielder who can play even in the centre and on the right, of attack. His style is that of Jadon Sancho.”

The other player, Uche, who has Nigerian roots, is a traditional number nine.

“He can add a lot to the team, he is very different from what we have here. Very strong, very physical. We believe that he will add much to our striking options.”

Uganda Cranes are top of pool B of the 2021 AFCON Qualifiers with four points. They drew goalless with Burkina Faso on the road before a home 2-0 win over Malawi at Namboole.

Uganda will be hoping to return to AFCON for a third straight time after appearances in 2017 Gabon and 2019 Egypt.
