 Women Elite League: Makerere Put Amuria To The Sword

Makerere University ladies team, She Muk beat Amuria ladies 4-0 in the FUFA Elite Women Elite League game played on Saturday at Makerere main grounds.

Goals, each from Viola Namuddu, Sharon Namatovu Sharon, Amina Nababi and Rebecca Nakasato were enough to hand the hosts a deserved win.

The win means that Makerere remain at the top of the table with 23 points from nine games played, fours points ahead of asubo gafford ladies that has had its match postponed till further notice because of players on national duty.

Amuria, with six points, will have to fight hard to fight the relegation.

In the first stanza of the game, Makerere had tried to penetrate through with two chances from Bonabana shamila and Nababi but they were denied by the amuria goalkeeper Irene Amongi Irene and the goal post respectively.

Namuddu, coming from an injury layoff, got a brillant pass from Jemima Twesiigye to put the hosts into the lead in the 32nd minute of the game.

Sharon Namatovu had a big chance to double the lead but her effort went over the bar.

The second half began with Makerere making a substition as Ndagire Josephine replacing right back Sarah Namata.

Ten minutes after the second half, Namatovu doubled the lead after an assist from Nababi Amina to put the hosts in safe zone.

In the 77th minute, Nababi made it three when she headed a cross from Nakasato.

Three minutes later, Nakasato scored her own from a heavy shot outside the box which was deflected by the Amuria defender and into the goal.

“The aim of the team is to win every game, get maximum points and get promoted to the senior league, we don’t want to lose any game at home,” said Makerere coach Fred Ndawula.

“We gave Namuddu enoug time to get better and heal very well that is why she played very well in this game. We played very well in the second half because in the first half we were trying to study the opponents and study the game.”

Makerere play Vision FC away from home in their next game.
