Coronavirus: Uganda Cranes V South Sudan Double Header Postponed

Uganda Cranes game with South Sudan has been postponed due to Coronavirus.

Confederation of African Football (CAF) has called off the 2021 African cup of Nations qualifiers including Uganda Cranes and South Sudan double header due to coronavirus.

Match-days of third and fourth in each group have all been called off to cater for the health of African.

The Cranes were to host South Sudan on March 28th at home and 31st away in Kenya.

CAF has added that any decision regarding forthcoming CHAN tournament will be made after their visit to Cameroon due this weekend 14th and 15th March 2020.

A total of 48 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers were set to take place across the continent at the end of March.

Uganda had summoned a squad of 20 foreign based players, including four from United Kingdom ahead of the South Sudan double header.

Uganda lead Group B with four points after two games: The side registered a 0-0 draw away with Burkina Faso earning a 2-0 victory over Malawi in the second game at Namboole.

CAF Statement

Following the growing concerns of the COVID-19 virus and the declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) describing it as pandemic, CAF has decided to postpone the following competitions until further notice:

  • Total AFCON 2021 Qualifiers: Match Day 3 and 4 of the qualifiers scheduled for 25 – 31 March 2020;
  • FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup Qualifiers: scheduled for 20 – 22 March 2020 and 27- 29 March 2020;
  • Total Women’s AFCON 2020 Qualifiers: scheduled for 8-14 April 2020.

A new schedule shall be announced in due time.
