Fauziah Najjemba and Juliet Nalukenge form a mercurial pair that has terrorised all defences Uganda U17 Women team have come across.
The pair’s exploits in COSAFA and CECAFA U17 women Championships form the biggest headlines in 2019 whey they scored for fun.
Najjemba says that the friendship with Nalukenge off the pitch has been vital in bringing out the right chemistry during games.
“We are friends off the pitch despite going to different schools and playing for different clubs,” Najjemba told FUFA media. “I think it is that great understanding that we carry even on pitch.”
“We complement each other. And by the way this runs through the entire squad. We are one unit and a happy family.”
The duo, coached by Ayub Khalifa, has scored a combined total of 50 goals for the U17 National team, per FUFA website.
Najjemba, who started with Cricket, says that Football “has made me a celebrity of some sorts at school” despite initial resistance from her Mother to join the sport back in the days.
The player has been on a bursary since Senior One at Mukono High school.
She will be at the front when Uganda face Cameroon in the FIFA U17 Women Cup Qualifiers.
“We have a very good chance despite this being our first time, as a team, we are ready to clear that Cameroon hurdle and make history.”
During this Covid19 pandemic period, Najjemba says that she works out twice a day; “I do runs in the morning and ballwork for I hour in the evening.”
