Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o has said that he was better than former Cote D’Ivoire captain Didier Drogba and Senegal’s forward El Hadji Diouf.
The remarks were direct response to Diouf who recently, in a video, bragged about being the greatest from Africa.
The comparison between Eto’o and Drogba has been fronted by both fans and the media on various occasions. The Ivorian had an impressive career with Chelsea where he scored 100 league goals and won four EPL titles. He also won the 2011 Champions league title.
“Even if my brother Diouf the last time, with an extra glass, got a little lost, there is no debate (about who is the best)”, Eto’o told Goal.
“None of them (Diouf and Drogba) can come and say that they were at my level or better. And it’s not the fact that I say it, it’s a fact, it’s something that is there. I wanted to be number one and I have been throughout my career.”
Eto’o played some of the top clubs in Europe including Inter Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea.
He was named the African player of the year a record four times – 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2010. He came third, behind Ronaldinho and Lampard, in the 2005 FIFA World Player of the year.
Diouf, who also featured for Liverpool FC and Rangers, is mostly remembered for guiding Senegal to the 2002 World Cup quarter finals.
