Zaga Reveals Why He Has Failed To Keep Pace With Allan Okello

Vipers SC midfielder Frank ‘Zaga’ Tumwesigye has revealed why he has failed to progress as expected like Allan Okello whom he was compared to back in their early days.

The debate about who is better between Zaga and Okello was at the front way back in 2016 during the post primary tourney – Copa Coca-cola.

Then, Okello’s Kibuli edged Zaga’s Kitende in shootouts to win the championship, with the now Vipers player missing a decisive penalty.

Okello was signed by KCCA a year later while Zaga was elevated to Kitende’s affiliated club Vipers SC – The two modern rival clubs in the country.

Okello, who was named the tournament MVP in Soroti, went on to register impressive performances with KCCA and signed for Algerian club Paradou FC ealier this year.

Zaga, has since failed to command playing time at Vipers. Had a loan stint with Express. The debate on who is better between the two, no longer holds water and has since faded.

In an exclusive interview with this website, an emotional Zaga has lifted the lid on why he has lagged behind, blaming the pressure to deliver from the start and change of coaches.

“I have faced many challenges in my life and career, I have had my personal targets as a player which I have not fulfilled but that doesn’t mean that they are far away from my reach,” Zaga opened up.

“I have not got enough time to prove what I can offer, I have not got that chance to show people and compare just like in the past. How will people compare a person who has not been playing. I have not got enough time to showcase my ability.

“We have changed coaches on various occasions and I believe that it has affected me negatively; every coach that comes has a new style he wants you to fit in. When you are catching up with his tactics and earning his trust and starting to impress him, then another one comes in.”

Zaga’s talent has never been in doubt, right from his various academies he has attended from Nsambya Young stars, Sparta Kampala, Mydel Mengo Youth, Villa Jogoo, FOF, KJT, not to mention St Mary’s school and Vipers junior team.

He added:

“I still believe that I have what it takes to reach another level. I want to get more playing time. I don’t remember playing five games in a row, I am always brought in as a substitute and when I start, I am taken off in around the 70th minute. Things like that. I have not been trusted enough and we are facing enough pressure to deliver.

“We started our journey under pressure, right from school; If you don’t deliver to their expectations, they will not even think about you. There were many players to pick from.”
