Basketball: Rwanda Set Date For League Resumption

Federation of Rwanda Basketball Association (FERWABA) has decided the BK National Basketball League to resume in September 2020, it is official.

The 2020 league season, that got underway on January 17, was stopped on March 15 due to the Covid19 pandemic.

According to a statement released on Sunday by Ferwaba, teams will play about two games or three in a week to reduce on the load.

“The BK Basketball National League 2019-2020 Men’s and Women’s Championships will be resumed from September 2020. All matches will be played, with each team playing two or three games a week where possible,” reads a statement in part.

“The Playoffs will bring together the top four teams and will be played as follows:
i) The semi-finals will be played with the start of 2 games (Best of 3),
ii) The Finals will be played with the start of 3 games (best of 5), This is in stark contrast to what is commonly expected in the Playoffs.”

The season will end with the All Stars Game.

It has been said that any team that will have difficulties due to the current situation of COVID-19 and its effects, may write a request to stop participating in the league, and not to be penalized.

Rwanda Energy Group (REG) basketball club were in cruise control before the league was halted. The red-and-black side will be hoping to reclaim the title after coming second to Patriots in the last two seasons.
