Lawrence Tezikya: Busoga United Youngster Inspired By Oloya, Thierry

Busoga United FC’s new kid on the block Lawrence Tezikya has revealed that it was Moses Oloya and Thierry Henry to whom he looked for inspiration.

The 19-year old is one of the new guns that have caught the footballer lovers’ attention in the concluded 2019/20 UPL season.

He however made his mark last year when he scooped the topscorer gong for another year running in the Copa Coca-cola schools championship with Jinja SS, an affiliate of Busoga United FC.

Speaking exclusively to this website, the lad expressed how he was inspired by Oloya and Thierry.

“Oloya grew up from these ends (Jinja) and I used to watch him when he was playing for the Red Star Academy. He was very calm with the ball, very tricky and covered all ground.

“With Thierry, I watched his videos during the days at Highbury and also watched him in bibanda (cinema halls) when Arsenal moved to Emirates. He could score all kinds of goals, very aggressive and fast.”

Oloya has represented Uganda Cranes on various occasions and has played for KCCA FC before moving overseas – Vietnam and Russia.

Thierry, France’s leading goalscorer, is regarded by many as the best player to ever grace the Premier League.

He also attended Street Primary and Buwenge parents school.

Tezikya has also credited coach Lumu for having a huge impact on his career.

Nicknamed Enzo, he made his league debut for Busoga United on Tuesday 13 November 2019 in the goalless draw with Maroons, and ended the season with five goals. He has been tagged by many as an absolute replacement for Joel Madondo who was bought by Moroccan giants Wydad Cassablance.

About his debut, Tezikya noted “I asked myself whether am the one because I was coming from school and it was really good for me and I felt so amazing.”

“I have reached here because of patience and hard work, and I am ready to do more to help my team. I hope I will play in Europe, hopefully the premier league.”

His best moment this season was when he scored his first goal, against BUL FC.
