Mikel Kiprotich Mutai: Kenyan Athlete Given Four-Year Ban

Kenyan long distance runner Mikel Kiprotich Mutai has been slapped with a four-year ban for breaking anti doping rules.

The Athletics Integrity Unity also banned pole vaulter Stanislau Tsivonchyk (Belarus) and long distance runner Kiranjeet Kaur (India).

Nandrolone was detected in Kirpotich’s urine samples which was taken after he took part in the Taipei Marathon.

Kiprotich was given a suspension in March this year to respond to the matter.

In his defense, Kirpotich said that he he only used diclofenac and a supplement called super vitamin prior to the event, but AIU rejected his explanation.

The ruling, as revealed by AIU, a body founded in April 2017 to protect the integrity of the sport of athletics, reads:

“13.1 a period of Ineligibility of four (4) years commencing on 20 March 2020 pursuant to Article 10.2.1(a) ADR; and

“13.2. disqualification of the Athlete’s results since 15 December 2019 with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any titles, awards, medals, points and prize and appearance money pursuant to Article 9 ADR and Article 10.8 ADR.”

Kiprotich joins Daniel Wanjiru, Alfred Kipketer and Kenneth Kipkemoi among other Kenyan athletes to be banned for using prohibited substances.
