Nine UPL Clubs To Shun FUFA’s Consultative Meeting

Nine UPL Clubs To Shun FUFA’s Consultative Meeting

Mbarara City and Express FC are among the nine Uganda Premier League clubs that have turned down an invite for the forthcoming FUFA consultative meeting.

The other clubs are Busoga United, Bright Stars, BUL FC, SC Villa, Wakiso Giants, Onduparaka and Kyetume FC.

FUFA called teams for the meet on Wednesday, June 10 to discuss the 2020/21 season and the proposed competitions reforms.

The club have declined the invite per the letter written by Mbarara chairman Hon Mwine Mpaka addressing the Uganda Premier League CEO Bernard Bainamani.

The Mbarara Chairman says that the nine clubs have unanimously agreed not to attend the meeting.

“The invitation to discuss club licensing and league reforms in one meeting is ineffective and will not deliver the desired outcome of the meeting.”

The letter adds: “The notice given is rather too short for us to make the necessary preparations and consultations. We had earlier planned a similar meeting scheduled for June 18th.”

The clubs have also advised FUFA and UPL to organise a separate meeting for CEO to discuss club licensing and the other for club chairmen to discuss strategic issues affecting the future of the league.

FUFA’s meeting came at a time after the said clubs had met privately and requested to meet the Minister of Education and Sports Banat Museveni. The clubs were hard done with FUFA’s decision to end the league without being consulted first among others.
