Wakiso Giants Appoint Douglas Bamweyana As New Coach

Wakiso Giants FC have confirmed Douglas Bamweyana as the club’s new head coach, it’s official.

According to the club website, Bamweyana has signed a three-year renewable contract.

His backroom staff will consist of Richard Wasswa as his assistant coach, Ali Kiggundu and Steven Bengo are the others.

Club CEO Sula Kamoga said: “As a club, we are delighted to have Bamweyana as our new head coach. He knows our expectations and those of our dear fans and we are optimistic he can play a lead role to take the club to another level.”

He is a CAF A licensed coach who was sacked by Maroons last season and has had stints with SC Villa and Express FC.

Bamweyana replaces Deo Sserwadda who came in to row the club’s boat to the end of the 2019/20 season.

Ibrahim Kirya was the first coach of Wakiso and helped the club to earn promotion to UPL but his contract was not renewed after the season in Big League.

Kefa Kisala was named the new coach for their first season in Premier League but was later sacked after a string of poor results.

Kefa’s successor Livingston Mbabazi, with Bengo having a cameo in between as a caretaker manager, parted ways quickly and Sserwadda was appointed.

The club finished 10th with 30 points in the league that was ended by FUFA due to Covid19 pandemic.
