Zamalek Withdraws From Egyptian Premier League

Giants Zamalek have withdrawn from the Egyptian Premier League, the club because of Covid19 concerns.

In Egypt, the government asked all clubs to undertake tests as they look to restart the league.

“The board of directors, led by chairman Mortada Mansour, unanimously agreed not to continue the league competition this season because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” Zamalek said in statement, as quoted by Ahram.

The Egyptian Football Association reported six cases of Coronavirus.

The Egyptian League is expected to return on July 25th and teams have already returned to training.

Zamalek is one of two clubs that have played in every season of the Egyptian Premier League, and one of seven clubs that have never been relegated to the Egyptian Second Division.

With 12 league titles, Zamalek are fourth on the 2019/20 log with 31 points after 16 games. Al Ahly are top with 49 after 17 games.
