Lawrence Mahatlane: South African Named Coach Of Uganda Cricket Cranes

Uganda Cricket Association have appointed South Africa’s Lawrence Mahatlane as the new coach of the Cricket Cranes.

The South African, 44, joins on a three-year deal and replaces Kenya’s Steven Tikolo who parted ways with Uganda in January this year.

Davis Turinawe has been working as an interim during that spell.

He will work with Jackson Ogwang as assistant coach and Physio Habiba Kulsum Anguyo.

“I am very excited with the opportunity to be a part of the Cricket Cranes family,” said Mahatlane as quoted in a press release.

“I look forward to working with Brian (Masaba, captain) and the rest of the team in taking the team forward.”

UCA Chief Executive Martin Ondeko revealed his excitement and added that Mahatlane finds the team on an upward spiral and believes that he will continue with the momentum gathered.

Mahatlane was the coach of South Africa U19 team at the 2020 World Cup in South Africa.

He was the assistant coach for the Higveld Lions in 2000 before taking up the role of U19 South African coach in 2014.
