Asan Kasingye Optimistic After Police Land Tonny Mawejje

Police FC Chairman Asan Kasingye is confident and positive ahead of future of his side after signing experienced Uganda Cranes midfielder Tonny Mawejje.

Mawejje has rejoined Police FC on a two-year deal and Kasingye vowed to win trophies.

Kasingye also applauded the work of the new Police FC CEO Fahad Lumu for his involvement in securing Mawejje’s deal.

Police FC won the Uganda Premier League in 2005 and the CECAFA Club championship the following year but the club has since struggled to return to the top.

“We no longer want to just compete. We are former champions and si we want to win trophies,” Kasingye said during the unveiling ceremony. “The problem has been ourselves, Football is a huge enterprise that doesn’t entertain mediocrity.”

“We have to do the right things. I am sorry that we had delayed but we have made a resolve and one of the first things was to hire CEO Lumu.

“We want to bring new sponsors because Police is a big organisation and many people want to be part of this good club.”

Kasingye saluted Mawejje for having played with a big heart during his first spell at the club as the player went on to score a late winner against Moro United to win the 2006 Cecafa Club championship.

“He played with one heart, I will never forget the winning goal in Tanzania, and I remember it was his last goal and its that goal that brought us the regional gong,” Kasingye confessed.

“Even when he left to URA, he left in good terms and we had a cordial relationship. He kept in touch with me whenever he went, and I remember he brought me his jersey though I have grown bigger now so I passed it to my Son in Senior four and he loves it so much.

“Mawejje brings a lot of experience, discipline and he is a sign of commitment.”

Kasingye reluctantly asked all Uganda Cranes players who have returned to the country, including Savio Kabugo, to join Police FC.

He said that Police FC wants to retain all their players despite interest from other clubs.

“We want to retain as many players as possible, the interests of clubs they have shown to our players suggests that we are a club that gets raw players and turn them into good players.”

Kasingye also commented that IGP Okot Ochola will be meeting with players to show his commitment and reaffirm his position as their number one fan.

He also asked Mawejje to show Police youngsters the “way.”

In his brief remarks, Mawejje expressed his gratitude to rejoining Police.

“I Am so happy that am back to Police FC, I have so much history with this team and I am here to reunite with the family because Police is my family,” commented Mawejje.
