Abdallah Mubiru Clears Air Over Mawejje Transfer

Police FC coach Abdallah Mubiru has clarified over “rumours” that surrounded the surprise transfer of Tonny Mawejje.

Mawejje signed a two-year contract with the 2005 Uganda Premier Leagues winners on Monday.

It is alleged that Mawejje joined Police on several conditions some of which included being named the captain and also getting a slot on the National team where Mubiru is an assistant coach.

“Those are baseless rumours,” Mubiru, speaking on Bukedde FM, defended Mawejje whose last appearance on the National team came in 2017 against Ghana.

“We held far better talks with Mawejje. He put his offers on table and we met them. It is actually very demeaning if you say that Mawejje joined Police because he wanted a captaincy role or a place on the National team.

“Mawejje’s dreams are bigger and more serious. He will bring experience and motivation, he has already lifted our targets as Police and we are going to compete seriously.”

Mubiru also added that Mawejje’s arrival is one of many signings expected at Police FC before the start of the forthcoming season.

“Yes Mawejje is our first signing, but I want to assure you that we are going to sign more players not only non league players as it has always been but we are also going to recruit already established.”

The coach revealed that Mawejje will be given Shirt 6.
