Mutebi Reveals Reason For Signing Denis Iguma

KCCA FC coach Mike Mutebi has revealed why he has added Denis Iguma on his squad for the 2020/21 season.

Iguma joined KCCA FC on a two-year deal and was unveiled on Sunday night.

Speaking during the KCCA FC TV show aired on Sanyuka, the gaffer explained:

“I signed Iguma because I want to sort out the centre half issues since the departure of Timothy Awany. Yes, John Revita came in but he got injured so we had to rely on kids from the development side.

“Iguma is a good player who can play in whatever system I choose for the team and I think he will have a good partnership with Musa Ramathan. He will surely suit in the way we play.”

Mutebi compared Iguma’s style to that of former Uganda Cranes captain Ibrahim Ssekajja, saying that he is a centre back who is good with ball and can dribble even inside the six.

He further explained that he has been monitoring Iguma and his addition was not by mistake.

“Iguma joining us is not by mistake, we have been monitoring him, in particular myself. His generation, that of Saddam Juma and Gift Ali, still has a lot to give Ugandan football,” Mutebi added.

“He is going to add experience to the club and the teenagers he will play with will benefit a lot. He will also play with some of the boys he featured with during his initial stages as a teenager.”

New KCCA FC signing Denis Iguma

Iguma’s career started with Kampala Kids League, and has represented Uganda at various tournaments including captaining the side to the 2014 CHAN in south Africa. He was part of the squad that featured in 2017 AFCON.

He has played for SC Villa under coach Mutebi despite the infamous fallout, he has had spells with Victoria University FC, Kuwait and Lebanon.

Mutebi added: “We need his experience as we plan to wrestle back the league, win Uganda Cup, defend the CECAFA cup in case its staged and reach the CAF Confederation cup group stages.”

“Iguma’s versatility has confused many coaches. I will use him a centre half, but he can play as a holding midfielder and fullback as well.”

Iguma is the fourth signing of KCCA FC after Stefano Mazengo Loro, Charles Lwanga and Ashraf Mugume.

The club has reportedly signed Pius Obuya from Maroons and are expected to add Bright Anukani, Ibrahim Mugulusi and Brian Aheebwa.
