 South Africa: PSL Set Return Date

South Africa Premier Soccer League (PSL) has set a return date after the season was halted due to Covid19 pandemic.

The PSL held a press conference on Monday and confirmed Saturday, August 8 2020 as the official return date for the season.

The season will go underway kickoff with the Nedbank Cup semi-finals between Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits.

The Absa Premiership and GladAfrica Championship fixtures will follow, according to the statement.

PSL Chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza has said: “This announcement will assist in lifting the mood of the country and also in mitigating some of the challenges faced by our country and the global community.”

“We have informed our stakeholders including the Minister of Sport, the MEC of Sport in Gauteng, SAFA, the broadcasters SuperSport, Absa, Nedbank, GladAfrica and SAFPU about the plans. All the clubs in the PSL have made it possible in making sure they comply with the protocols.”

He confirmed that the remainder of the season will be played in a biological safe environment (BSE).

Kaizer Chiefs lead the 16-team log with 48 points after 22 games while Mamelodi Sundowns are closely in second with 44 points having played a game less than Chiefs.
