Official: Goalkeeper Tom Ikara Joins Police FC

Goalkeeper Tom Ikara has joined Uganda Premier League side Police FC, it’s official.

Ikara has put pen to paper to a two year deal, Police has announced.

He joined KCCA FC from Kirinya Jinja SS FC in 2018 where he signed a two year deal with KCCA but he found playing time hard to come by at Lugogo before he was loaned to Mbarara City.

Earlier, he was in advanced talks to join Sam Ssimbwa’s URA FC before finalizing a deal to join Police.

The goalkeeper was also strongly linked to Vipers who are reportedly set to lose Fabien Mutombora.

At KCCA, Ikara has won one league title, Uganda Cup, Super Cup and Pilsner Super 8.

At Police, he is expected to compete with Davies Mutebi for a starting place in the posts.

Police FC have already acquired Tonny Mawejje, Eric Ssenjobe and Hassan Muhamood while Johnson Odong and Yusuf Ssozi have renewed contracts.

Ikara To Police – Mutual Benefits

Tom Ikara joining Police FC is a deal that will benefit both the player and the club, without doubt.

About two years ago, Ikara was among the best goalkeepers when he was still at Kirinya Jinja SS.

His transfer to KCCA that has seen the goalkeeper struggle to get playing time, has seen him drop in the pecking order.

With the shot stopper vying for a spot back to the National team fold (CHAN for starters), playing under the watchful eye of Abdallah Mubiru (assistant coach of Uganda Cranes) gives him a good platform.

Police FC’s main weak link all along has been their defence and goalkeeping departments.

Davies Mutebi is a good goalkeeper but lacked formidable competition and last season’s Hilary Jomi showed that he was not ready for the occasion especially in that controversial loss to Vipers at Lugogo last season.

Club Chairman Asan Kasingye recently said that he is targeting to return the club where it belongs and adding Ikara is another proof that the side is taking a right direction – Police FC won the league in 2005 and CECAFA Kagame cup the following year.

With more signings still on the way at Police FC, the Cops will be a strong side to watch out for.
