Uganda Premier League record winners SC Villa have officially confirmed signing goalkeeper Meddie Kibirige.
Kibirige becomes the first signing for the 16-time league winners ahead of the 2020/21 season.
He joins from relegated Tooro United and has been unveiled on the club social media pages.
“I am so glad to have joined SC Villa,” Kibirige excitedly says in a video.
“Joining Villa has been an easy decision for me, this is the move I have been waiting for because Villa is the biggest club in Uganda and I hope to win more trophies with this club.”
The goalkeeper, three hours before the official unveiling by the club, had already took to Facebook to confirm his move to Villa. He posted: “Am a Jogoo.”
Kibirige is expected to fill the void left behind by Wakiso Giants-bound Samson Kirya.
Is Kibirige the first of many?
The Villa fans will hope that Kibirige’s signing is the first of many as the side seek to win their first league title in recent memory.
Villa finished third last season but face a big battle to retain a crop of last season’s players with some have their contracts already expired.
In addition, players led by Emmanuel Kalyowa, have come out to demand their salaries that are estimated to be in nine months.
Bashir Mutanda has already confirmed his exit while Ambrose Kirya has reportedly joined BUL FC while others like Ibrahim Kibumba were reportedly axed.
As earlier speculated, the club is expected to unveil young midfielder Geoffrey ‘Goffin’ Oyirwoth.
