Wadada Named Best Defender As Chama, Simba Dominate Night

Uganda Cranes right back Nicholas Wadada has been named the best defender in the 2019/20 Tanzania Vodacom Premier League during the awards gala held on Friday Night.

To clinch the award, Wadada beat David Luhende (Kagera Sugar) and Bakari Mwamnyeto (Coastal Union, signed for Yanga recently).

He scored one goal and provided eight assists as Azam FC clinched third place.

“I thank God,” Wadada started in his acceptance speech. “My family played for me, coaches and teammates pushed me always, and the Azam FC fans have been good as well.”

The Uganda Cranes defender, however, lost the best player of the season gong to Zambia and Simba SC star Clautos Chama.

Chama scored two goals and 10 assists for Simba SC in the league.

Chama also took the gong for the best midfielder of the season while his Simba tactician Sven Vandenbroeck was named the best coach.

Aishi Manula (Simba) was awarded the best goalkeeper award and Meddie Kagere the top scorer gong.

Kagere’s award was picked by his Simba official Patrick Rweyemamu on his behalf.

Simba, the league champions, also had six players on the best XI of the season.

The awards held at Mlimani City Hall have had Minister Jafo Selemani as the guest of honour.

TFF President Wallace Karia and his Vice President Athumani Nyamlani also attended the event.

“These awards are a long process that has taken us all season to make sure they grow better,” said TFF President Karia.

“We promise we will make improvements so that they can touch a wider area. Congratulations to Simba SC doe taking the championship, Yanga, Azam, Namungo and other clubs including the relegated one.”
