Retired referee Catherine Nagadya Cynthia is satisfied with her achievements obtained during her officiating career.

Nagadya, who held the FIFA assistant badge from 2014, retired in 2019.

“I have managed to travel within and outside Uganda and have made many friends because of refereeing.

“Being able to send my girl to school and support her in anything she wants and also setting up a side-business for myself.”

Born in Nyenga, Buikwe district in October 1981, Nagadya is a single mother of one daughter.

Her sports journey started with coaching her daughter.

Nagadya remembers: “I coached my girl Netball as means of relaxation and I would make them play netball and would be their referee as well.”

“So, when I got tired of coaching, I started pursuing a refereeing career after watching the likes of my three role models; Adipo Catherine, Aisha Ssemambo and Kubingi Margret officiating league games.”

Nagadya qualified in 2007 as a grade three referee and starting officiating the following year.

In 2011, Nagadya was nominated on FIFA badge list and charge of Big League and FUFA games.

“I had some good time to officiate some big league games and super league games which added on my experience,” Nagadya comments.

“However, in 2013 I crossed from centre referee to assistant referee where I got my FIFA badge in 2014.”

Nagadya’s last game was the final of the Masaza Cup between Bulemezi and Busiro at Namboole in 2019.
