Promising goalkeeper Isaac ‘Buffon’ Bewayo is banking and hoping for a successful football career so that he can help his ailing family.
Bewayo, 16, doesn’t know his parents and was brought up by his grandparents Joseph and Ruth Kimone.
His football talent was cemented after he was voted the best goalkeeper thanks to his heroics as BUL won the 2019 FUFA Junior League in Njeru.
However, he stopped playing in FUFA Junior League after that successful season and since then, many challenges have come along.
“The biggest (challenge) is not playing competitive football which has reduced my fitness levels,” he told this website.
“Not playing for my team BUL meant that I am not earning allowances which used to help the family to some extent. Its now more difficult given this ongoing Covid19 pandemic.
“I am doing my personal training but I am missing the beautiful game and my friends and coaches as well.”
Earlier this year, Bewayo moved from Jinja to Kiwatule (Kampala) and stayed with a friend as he started to train with KCCA FC. However, the Covid19 distorted all the plans and he had to return to Masese in Jinja.
“Football is my only hope, I am from a family constrained by finances and I hope to change our welfare if all goes well,” Bewayo adds.
Bewayo is currently in negotiations with a Russian KSports Management Agency that also manages Uganda Cranes star Luwagga Kizito.
Bewayo, says that he chose becoming a goalkeeping because of his great admiration for grew up admiring Italian Legendary shot stopper Gianluigi ‘Gigi’ Buffon.
On Buffon, he adds: “Because I grew up admiring him, his ability , displine, potential, and my first day to play for my school ended up even them calling me Buffon yet by that time no one new that i like that player.”
“I was also inspired by many Ugandan goalkeepers including Alitho James and Ismail Watenga who inspired me to like and started wearing shirt number 19,” he adds.
He adds; “My dream is to play professional football when am still young and to save the situation and the conditions my family is going through now.”
