Uganda Cranes will be in action in November this year for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers, CAF has announced.
The Football governing body in Africa, CAF, has on Wednesday approved the resumption dates for Qualifiers of 2021 AFCON and 2022 FIFA World Cup.
CAF has revealed that the AFCON qualifiers resume on November 9-17 2020 with double-headers of Day 3 and 4 matches.
The Qualifiers will go on until March 22-30 2021.
Uganda Cranes will therefore face South Sudan in November both home and away.
Uganda Cranes was set to play South Sudan on March 26 at Namboole before Covid19 pandemic hit.
The Cranes lead AFCON qualifiers group B with four points thanks to an away draw against Burkina Faso and a home win off Malawi.
Uganda will be hoping for a third straight return to AFCON after appearances in previous editions in 2017 and 2019. The side has made seven out of 32 AFCON editions with their best achievement being a 2-0 loss to hosts Ghana in 1978.
CAF has said that they are monitoring the situation closely and working with the relevant authorities with regards to hosting of the matches, and will make pronouncements accordingly in the event of developments that will affect playing a match at the designated venue.
For the World Cup, Qualifiers, the Qualifiers will be played between 31 May and 15 June 2021 with the Day 1 & 2 matches.
From 30 August till 7 September, the Day 3 & 4 matches are expected to take place with Day 5 & 6 matches fixed for 4-12 October 2021.
The Playoff matches have been scheduled for 8-16 November 2021.
Uganda Cranes are were grouped against Mali, Kenya and Rwanda in their World Cup Qualifier group and will be targeting a top slot to reach the next Qualifying round.
