Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC have appointed Charles Masembe as the club Sporting Director.
Masembe becomes the first official to take over the newly created position at Vipers.
Sporting director or director of football as many prefer to call it, acts as a senior intermediary between the club’s coaching staff and board.
The appointment of Masembe comes weeks after Vipers appointed Simon Peter Njuba as the next club CEO.
Masembe is a former FUFA CEO and is also a certified FIFA referee.
Vipers has said that Masembe will seek to create a favourable environment at the club for the players, coaches and management and also oversee youth structures.
Vipers President Lawrence Mulindwa has said that they have been keen to introduce the role of a Sporting Director into the structure for some time.
“We unveil Masembe as one of the most experienced and exposed football administrators because our dream is big and we want people like him that can help us archive our vision of becoming the first class football club in Uganda and Africa,” Mulindwa is quited by the Club website.
Masembe on the other hand, said that he has always admired Vipers and “I have landed well in a place where I can also be helpful.”
Vipers will be hoping to retain their league title next season and pursue CAF Champions League group stages.
