Martin Ssekajja: KCCA Building Team To Dominate For Next Five Years

KCCA FC Chairman Martin Ssekajja is confident that his side will achieve their targets in the forthcoming 2020/21 season.

The Lugogo based side failed to defend the league which was consequently won by Vipers who were declared champions when the season was ended due to Covid19 pandemic.

Ssekajja who was appointed to replace Aggrey Ashaba as the Club chairman in October 2019, started his works officially the following month.

“My reign has been full of ups and downs,” started Ssekajja while speaking to Andrew Kabura on NTV Press box on Monday. “We came into office when the team was seventh but we ended the season in second. We were aiming for 1st position but it was cut short by Covid19, we should have been Champions for the 14th title.”

“This time, we have made our targets very clear, by the number of signings we have.”

KCCA FC have added Stefano Loro Mazengo, Ashraf Mugume, Charles Lwanga, Denis Iguma, Bright Anukani, Andrew Kigozi Samson and Brian Aheebwa.

On Sunday, the club promoted Masaka SS senior five student Dominic Ayella to the senior team.

“We shall be promoting many youths to the senior team,” Ssekajja added.

“We have many targets to fulfill. We have around nine players that have left, so we want to breed a new team to help us dominate for the next five years. We are bringing in players that add value to the club and cost effective.”

“I also want to assure the fans that KCCA FC’s marriage with coach Mike Mutebi is a good one,” Ssekajja added when asked to comment about the rumour of sacking the gaffer.

KCCA FC who will be representing Uganda in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup, has already lost Mustafa Kizza to Montreal Impact while Mike Mutyaba has retired due to a heart problem.

Saddam Juma, Jackson Nunda and Erisa Ssekisambu headline a list of released players that also has Jamil Malyamungu, Eric Ssenjobe and Tom Ikara who joined Police FC.

The 2020/21 season is tentatively set to kick off on October 17, according to FUFA.

In the events of the ongoing lockdown, Ssekajja said that a lot has been going on at the club in the background.

He explained: “Despite Covid19, we don’t want to make excuses, we have been trying to improve our brand, we have been growing our fan base, we have been trying to recruit in various structures of the club in Junior team, Senior team and coaching staff. We are strengthening in various aspects, we have been trying to talk to various sponsors, we have renewed contracts. Its been work in progress behind the scenes.”
