Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo unleashed a final kick to stun Jakob Ingebrigtsen on his way to 3000m race glory in Diamond League in Rome.
With pre race favorite Ingebrigtsen in cruise control after the bell, Kiplimo patiently stalked from behind until the final bend to sprint past the Norwegian in the last 50m.
The 19-year old clocked 7:26.64 which is the fastest time in the world since 2007.
The time is also a National record, World Lead and Diamond League record. Its the fastest time since 2007.
Uganda’s 3000m National Record initially stood at 7:30.95 – It was set in 2009 by Moses Ndiema Kipsiro in Monaco, France.
The victory, achieved nine days after winning 5000m race in Ostrava, makes Kiplimo the fastest teenager in history in 3000m.
