Ochaya Listed In Uganda Cranes Squad For Camp In Dubai

TP Mazembe’s Joseph Benson Ochaya has been listed for the forthcoming Uganda Cranes training camp in Dubai next month.

The DR Congo club hinted on the development while confirming that seven of their foreign based legion are set to go out during the International Break from October 5-13.

“Joseph Benson OCHAYA is also part of the list of Cranes of Uganda who will be gathered in Dubai throughout the period,” the club has said in a statement.

Ochaya, left back cum winger, recently renewed his contract for the club that has won the CAF Champions League five times.

The former KCCA, Lusaka Dynamos and Asante Kotoko player has been a regular fixture for the Cranes squad including the 2017 and 2019 AFCON tourneys.

Other Mazembe players going out for International duty include DR Congo duo Joel Beya and Issama Mpeko who will face Burkina Faso and Morocco in friendlies.

Ivory Coast’s Sylvain Gbohou is also part of the squad that will play Nigeria on October 9 in Klagenfurt, Austria and Japan on October 13 in Utrecht, the Netherlands.

Zambian duo Tandi Mwape and Kabaso Chongo have been summoned by Zambia while Ibrahim Mounkoro is expected to leave for Mali.

Who is in Uganda Cranes Squad?

Uganda Cranes coach Jonathan Mckinstry is expected to name the contingent in the coming days.

Besides TP Mazembe’s hint, and Mckinstry’s recent praise of Farouk Miya and Derrick Nsibambi’s form, the team list remains a total guess.

In his recent remarks, McKinstry said that he will miss four foreign based players due to travel restrictions.

He also stated that the composition of his 25-man squad will have 30% local based players.

Mckinstry said that he opted for a training camp in Dubai next month instead of a friendly in the FIFA International window in order to get more quality time with the players.

“We believe that taking the guys to Dubai with nine days of good quality work on the training field meets our requirements in lots of ways,” he told FUFA media.

The team will use the training camp to prepare for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers Double header against South Sudan in November.
