World Cup: Wanyama On Being Pitted Against Uganda, Mali and Rwanda

Victor Wanyama has opened up on Kenya Harambee Stars chances of qualifying to the 2022 World Cup.

The Harambee Stars are pitted against Uganda Cranes, Mali Les Aigles and Rwanda Amavubi Stars in Group E of the qualifiers in Africa.

“It’s a difficult group and we respect all the teams,” Wanyama told FIFA.

“As with any qualifying event, you shouldn’t complain about the quality of your opponents or the group.

“We have strong rivals, but games are decided only on matchdays and out on the pitch, so we have to do our best to get good results and qualify from that group.

“I think Mali are the favourites, but Uganda and Rwanda are very good too. Any of those three could make it.”

The Montreal Impact Midfielder who has played for Tottenham Hotspur in Premier League is hoping for the best in the qualifiers:

“Every player dreams of the World Cup and we’ll do all we can to qualify. We hope things go in our favour and that we reach Qatar 2022.”

Following the Covid19 pandemic, the World Cup Qualifiers in Africa were pushed to May 31, 2021.

The teams were drawn into ten groups of four to play home-and-away in round-robin matches.

The winners of each group will advance to the third round.
