Uganda’s State Minister for Sports Denis Hamson Obua has provided an important update on the construction of Buhinga and Aki Bua Stadiums.
Obua, speaking to the Federation heads in a conference meeting said that two consultants are going to be contracted.
“Ministry of Sports and Education will very soon, with 7 working days be signing contractual obligations with 2 consultancy firms to conduct detailed feasibility studies i.e Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of constructing 2 Stadiums – Akii Bua Olympic Stadium and Buhinga Stadium.”
The progress on the two stadiums have raised eye brows since the construction work started.
The construction of Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal started last year with the task given to the Engineering Brigade UPDF for the stadium that projected to cost Sh6bn.
For Aki Bua Stadium, the project was proposed in 2016 for a 30,000-seater stadium in memory of Olympic gold medalist, John Akii Bua who won gold in the 1972 Munich Olympic.
Obua also reaffirmed that Mandela National Stadium obtained its three Certificates of Titles now in possession of the management.
He added: “The attainment of the Land Titles gives sports an opportunity to think further in terms of Strategic Engagements.”
“Mandela Stadium Masterplan presents an opportunity to bring sports projects to be accommodated in its Masterplan subject to availability of land resulting to sports infrastructural development. The needs assessment for its upgrade has been concluded.”
