Pitso Mosimane Confirms Sundowns Departure In Farewell Message

South African coach Pitso Mosimane has confirmed his departure from PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

He leaves the club after an eight-year tenure headlined by the 2016 CAF Champions League triumph.

In his farewell message, Pitso commeded the Sundowns family and thanked club President Dr Patrice Motsepe.

“Its with a series of pain and sadness that I announce my departure from Mamelodi Sundowns FC. I have accepted an offer to join an international team,” Pitso said in a statement.

“Sundowns has been my family for almost eight years. The President Dr Patrice Motsepe has been like a father to me. He has been a mentor, a friend, a supporter and a confidante. I could never quit him or Mamelodi Sundowns.

“I am only away to carry the spirit of the Yellow Nation with me.”

Since appointment in 2012, Pitso has won five league titles with Sundowns including the 2019/20 season that saw the side chase down Kaizer Chiefs.

“From the deepest of my heart, I am so grateful that the President has blessed my move. I did not expect less from a man who has been so good and generous to me. He is the kind of leader any family, team and indeed any country needs. I have been privileged to drink from his well of wisdom,” he added.

“My success is his success, without him, I would have achieved half of what I have I leave the family knowing that our board is unbreakable and hoping that with the passage of time, our paths would come together again. This is not a divorce. We shall remain bonded forever.”

According to African Journalist Nuhu Adams, Pitso has signed a two-year contract with Egyptian club Al Ahly.

The Ghanian adds that Pitso has already requested for his working team of Rulani Mokwena (Assistant Coach), Kabelo Rangoaga and Musi Matlaba as Physical Trainer and Performance Analyst respectively.

Pitso, speaking about his next venture, said: “I am taking up this new challenge that will push me out of my comfortable zone. I know Mamelodi Sundowns will use this as a fresh and new perspective.”

“While I had four years in my contract, this offer is a huge opportunity for me that would not have come had I not had he privilege to be part of the team that had led Mamelodi Sundowns in winning the CAF Champions League and reaching the Club World Cup.”

Sundowns President Motsepe, in a club statement, says that he received the news from Pitso and he is “very proud” of his achievements at the club.

The president added: “Pitso has been the most successful coach in the history of Sundowns and will always be a member of the Mamelodi Sundowns Family. I wish him, Moira and his family everything of the very best and I hope to see him coaching in Europe soon.”

Mamelodi Sundowns will be expected to appoint a new coach soon.
